Before you see the clip I placed up here this time around, let me explain something and vent a little bit………..
Now, for me personally, I’m all into actually seeing musicians play actual instruments and seeing live shows; I’m sayin’, I wanna get my money’s worth. I also understand the signs of the time as in most musicians are using Pro Tools, Logic Studio, Reason, Cubase, etc to create their music versus just recording instruments to a mixer and calling it a day, and it’s definitely cost effective (taken from someone who uses Reason as well for some of the demos I have made myself). However, I hate when artists use these tools to cheat fans out of a good show. It’s fine when you use it in the studio, but when I go to a concert, I want to see MUSICIANS, not a couple on stage faking like they’re playing, and maybe play about 5 minutes of real music the entire concert. If you want to hear real music, go to a Stevie Wonder, George Duke, or Jill Scott concert, where they have a LIVE rhythm section behind them playing, versus an Usher, Beyonce, or 98% of hip hop artists where they, more or less, CHEAT.
(Ok I’m off my soapbox for now)
Now today’s musical break comes from a drummer by the name of David “Fingers” Haynes. He can actually play the drums very well, but he is famous for how he has manipulated the Alessis Drum Machine and is able to mimic live drum playing on this machine, including authentic sounding drum solos. Here’s a clip from a performance he did with Frank McComb in Japan in 2007. Enjoy!!!
